At Casa de Onda it happens on an open air patio under the palms, on the second level of Triangle Square in Costa Mesa, with a scratch made Mexican American fusion kitchen and a craft cocktail bar attached to it.

As a holiday party venue in Costa Mesa we take groups from small team dinners up to 300 guests, and we build each night around the group in front of us rather than handing you a set menu and a floor plan.

Here is the honest truth about this space: it does not photograph the way it feels. People walk in for a tour with a spreadsheet in their head and leave talking about where the bar should go. So before anything else, come walk it. Tell us roughly how many people and roughly when, and we will walk you through the patio and the space inside, talk through what your night could actually look like, and build the plan from there.

Three ways to take the space

Inside

Most parties end up here. Guests arrive through the patio, which is the main entrance, so they are out in the open air first and walk through it to reach you. Inside is the semi-private space. It has its own bar, separate from the main bar out on the patio, and that bar can be held just for your party.

The open air patio

Palms, string lights and the thatched roof bar at one end. It is also the main entrance, so every guest walks through it on the way in. This is the one people remember. It works for standing receptions, long family style tables, or a mix of both, and it is genuinely open air rather than a covered terrace pretending to be one.

The full venue

The whole place, closed to the public, up to 300 guests. Patio, indoor space, both bars, the dance floor. For companies that want the night to be theirs from the door onward.

The food

Everything is scratch made. We serve holiday parties plated, family style, buffet, or as passed appetizers moving through the room, and we will tell you honestly which one suits your headcount and your timing. Taco bar buffets, multi course dinners, and custom chef specials are all on the table. Vegetarian options run through every package, and we handle dietary restrictions and allergies when we know about them in advance.

The bar

Full bar, and the margaritas do most of the talking. You can run an open bar for a set stretch of the night, hand out drink tickets, keep it on consumption, or add a champagne toast for the speech. We will walk you through which one tends to work for a group your size.

What we can do, and what we cannot

DJs: yes, and they work well in this room
Live bands and singers: no, we do not have the equipment or the licensing for it
Your own cake: yes, with a cake cutting fee. Your baker just needs to coordinate the drop with us
Outside alcohol: never, under any circumstances
Outside food: only with prior approval from management

Getting here, and parking

Casa de Onda is on the second level of Triangle Square at 1870 Harbor Blvd, Costa Mesa, CA 92627, right at the end of the 55 Freeway as it heads toward Newport Beach. Parking is free in the seven level covered structure, which matters more than you think in December when nobody wants to circle the block in the rain in good shoes.

Book earlier than you think you need to

November and December fill from the outside in. The Friday and Saturday nights go first, and they go earlier every year. If you have a date in mind it is worth calling now even if your headcount is still moving around, because we can hold a conversation long before you have to hold a number.

Common questions about our holiday party venue in Costa Mesa

How many people can you hold?

Up to 300 for a full venue buyout. Smaller groups take the inside space or a section of the patio, and we will point you at the right one once we know your number.

Can we have the whole place to ourselves?

Yes. A full buyout closes the restaurant to the public for your event.

What does it cost?

It depends on the space, the date, the headcount and what you want to eat and drink, and any number we gave you before knowing those would be a guess. Come and walk the room and we will build you a real one.

How far ahead should we book?

For November and December, as early as you can manage. The rest of the year a few weeks is usually plenty.

Can we bring a DJ?

Yes. DJs are welcome and this room is built for one. We do not accommodate live bands.

Can we bring our own alcohol?

No outside alcohol is permitted. We have bar packages to suit every budget.
